Public transport must get crisis support to avoid cuts in the long term, the Socialist Left Party (SV) believes.

The government is extending the financial compensation schemes for train companies and commercial bus and boat routes until March next year.

The SV supports the measure but believes the government must also guarantee that there will be no route cuts in the future.

“We know that it takes time before people return to public transport, so we must also support the industry for a long time to come. People all over the country are dependent on getting from A to B,” the party’s transport policy spokesperson Mona Fagerås stated.

On Tuesday, four ministers presented the government’s corona financial compensation schemes. Public transport is one of the areas covered by the measures.

Norwegian municipalities and county municipalities are to be compensated for additional expenses and lower income due to the latest infection control restrictions.
